Islamic Scholar Warns Politicians Against Sacrificing Nigerians for 2027 Ambitions
Prof. Ibrahim Uthman, Chief Imam of University of Ibadan and Islamic Studies professor, has called on Nigerian politicians not to sacrifice citizens' lives for political ambitions. He made this appeal Wednesday after leading Eid Kabir prayers, emphasizing the alarming rate of kidnapping and insecurity nationwide.
Uthman specifically addressed governors, President, Senators, political office holders, and 2027 aspirants, urging them to focus on solving current national challenges rather than pursuing power at citizens' expense. He described the security situation as "worrisome and unfortunate" and called for collective effort to curb insecurity.
The Islamic scholar noted that political positions come from divine will and advised against taking revenge in politics. He also appealed to Nigerians to remain patient during difficult times, stating that hardship is not an excuse for criminality and that patience is a religious virtue.
As political activities intensify toward the 2027 elections, should political ambitions take precedence over citizen safety, or must leaders demonstrate commitment to public welfare first?
