Israel bans gatherings, shuts schools amid Iran missile retaliation

Israel declared a state of emergency Saturday after Iran launched missiles in retaliation for a joint US-Israeli attack. Schools, workplaces and public gatherings were banned nationwide. Hospital patients were moved to underground facilities as part of emergency measures. Defence Minister Israel Katz warned of Iranian missile and drone attacks while mobilizing tens of thousands of reservists to reinforce borders. Israelis generally have access to bomb shelters and a nationwide alert system. The conflict follows last year's 12-day aerial war that killed over 30 Israelis and more than 900 Iranians.
