JAMB Registrar Professor Segun Aina said the planned Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination centre in Ottawa, Canada, is meant to expand access to education for Nigerians living in Canada and other parts of North America, not to generate revenue. He disclosed this in a post on X on Tuesday, October 5, 2026, responding to public queries about the centre that is scheduled to begin operations for the 2027 UTME.

Aina noted that JAMB already administers the UTME in about ten foreign countries and also conducts the exam in Nigerian correctional service centres for the same accessibility reason. He stressed that the number of prospective candidates is not the main factor in deciding where to locate such centres.

For Nigerians abroad, the Ottawa centre will eliminate the need to travel back to Nigeria to sit the examination, reducing cost and logistical barriers. Registration details and exact opening date for the 2027 UTME have not yet been released, but interested candidates should monitor JAMB’s official website and portal for updates as the 2027 examination cycle approaches.
