Kenya's National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has activated an automated traffic enforcement system that sends fines to motorists via SMS. The Instant Fines Management System (IFMS) issues violations like speeding and red-light running detected by cameras, with fines payable through KCB Group channels within seven days. Unpaid fines accrue interest and may block access to NTSA services. This shift from manual policing aims to reduce corruption and road deaths, as Kenya records thousands of annual fatalities from dangerous driving. The system logs violations on digital profiles, enabling immediate enforcement without roadside stops.
