KLM has suspended all flights to Dubai, Riyadh, Dammam, and Tel Aviv until further notice due to regional airspace risks. The Dutch airline is avoiding the airspace of Iran, Iraq, Israel, and parts of the Gulf region as a precaution amid ongoing geopolitical tensions, as stated in a Saturday website announcement.

Affected passengers were informed, but KLM will not rebook those scheduled for 24-25 January, noting other carriers are also suspending routes. Passengers can request a voucher or full refund if they prefer not to travel. The airline continues to monitor the situation closely.

Since late December 2025, Middle East unrest has been driven by economic hardship and political tensions. In Iran, protests resulted in over 5,000 fatalities, prompting US military deployment, including an aircraft carrier strike group. This has led to broader airspace disruptions; Air France resumed Dubai flights January 24 after a one-day suspension, while Lufthansa, British Airways, and others are rerouting flights to avoid conflict zones.

For Nigerian travelers, this suspension affects travel plans to key Middle East hubs. Check with your travel agent or airline about alternative routes or dates. Are you adjusting travel plans or waiting for the situation to stabilize?
