Kunle Afolayan Partners with Benin Republic to Co-Produce Vodun-Themed Series
Award-winning Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding with the Société de Productions Audiovisuelles (SOPA) in the Benin Republic, establishing a strategic partnership to develop a globally competitive film ecosystem. The collaboration will focus on co-producing a large-scale television series themed around Orisha/Vodun spiritual traditions, merging Nigerian and Beninese cultural narratives for international audiences. Key innovations include the use of artificial intelligence for pre-visualisation, virtual environments, visual effects, and story development. This partnership marks Afolayan's expanding influence beyond Nigeria, building on the global success of projects like Aníkülapó. Afolayan, son of late filmmaker Ade Love and founder of KAP Group, is recognized for elevating Nollywood production standards through technically refined storytelling. The partnership was signed in Lagos, positioning Afolayan and his Kunle Afolayan Productions as key partners in Benin's film industry development.
