Organised labour in Nigeria's federal public service has set a Friday, February 27, 2026 deadline for the federal government to pay three months' outstanding wage award and other allowances owed to workers. The Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) warned that failure to meet this deadline would compel the eight civil service unions to take decisive action. The wage dispute, lingering for over two years since the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage approved after fuel subsidy removal, has left three months unpaid since July 2024. The unions allege deliberate fund withholding despite agency readiness to process payments once released. A letter to the Minister of Finance stated: 'This wage award has dragged on for over two years now since the implementation of (N70,000) Minimum Wage Payment was approved.' Failure to pay by Friday could trigger industrial action.
