Labour Party names Bintu Konto as 2027 VP candidate alongside Okereke
The Labour Party has selected public health expert Bintu Konto as its vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 presidential election, running alongside presidential nominee Dr Chibuzo Okereke. National Publicity Secretary Ken Asogwa announced Konto's selection on Saturday in Abuja, stating it followed extensive stakeholder consultations.
Asogwa described Konto as a humanitarian leader with over three decades of experience, including leadership roles at Catholic Relief Services where she coordinated government and community engagements on health, nutrition, WASH, and humanitarian programs across Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states. He highlighted her credentials as a trained nurse, midwife, health educator, and public health specialist with a Master's in Public Health, plus her current role on the Global Fund Country Coordinating Mechanism and prior lecturing in Community Health.
The nomination reflects the party's emphasis on gender inclusion, national unity, and competent leadership, with Asogwa noting Konto's work in Nigeria's North East demonstrates her capacity to bridge divides. He framed the Okereke-Konto ticket as committed to restoring hope, improving security, reviving the economy, and strengthening national institutions, urging Nigerians to support their bid for a united, prosperous, and just nation.
