LAMATA to Add 24 Coaches to Lagos Red Line by Q3 2026
Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) will add three eight-coach trains to the Red Line fleet by the third quarter of 2026, bringing 24 additional coaches to strengthen capacity and improve service reliability. The expansion addresses recent passenger complaints about technical issues, particularly faulty air conditioning on the Oyingbo–Agbado route. LAMATA apologized for the heat and inconvenience and deployed technical teams to resolve cooling system failures. The new trains form part of a long-term strategy to enhance commuter comfort and operational efficiency across the 27-kilometre Red Line corridor, which began full operations in October 2024. The Lagos State Government projects the expanded service will eventually transport 500,000 passengers daily.
