Lawmaker urges stepped-up terror fight after 129 militants neutralised in June
Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, reported that Nigerian Armed Forces neutralised 129 terrorists and other criminal elements in June 2026, arrested 486 suspects, rescued 542 kidnapped victims, and recovered 130 firearms plus 5,538 rounds of ammunition. Speaking in a statement on Monday, the Benue State lawmaker urged security agencies to intensify the campaign against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other threats across the country.
He noted that previous synergy between the military and other security agencies has rolled back insecurity, describing the Armed Forces as more coordinated and decisive. Agbese said the military is now taking the battle to terrorists, kidnappers, bandits and oil thieves in various parts of the federation, and that the progress should encourage Nigerians to believe lasting peace is achievable with sustained support and strong leadership.
Agbese added that security is a collective responsibility, urging citizens to provide timely intelligence, reject collaboration with criminal groups, and stand firmly behind security personnel. Will you share timely tips with authorities and avoid any dealings with criminal groups to help sustain this progress?
