Lawmaker Victor Umeh accuses PMP of blocking NDC's 2027 election bid

Lawmaker Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, accused the Peace Movement Party (PMP) of being used to block the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) from participating in the 2027 general elections. Umeh pointed out that shortly after Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso and several allies joined the NDC on May 3, 2026, an application was filed on May 4 to set aside the party's registration, even though the NDC had been registered for about five months. He also recalled that a Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, had previously set aside its own judgment that ordered INEC to register the NDC as a political party. The allegations come amid a series of statements from NDC allies warning of judicial manipulation and political intimidation aimed at weakening the opposition ahead of the 2027 polls.
