Lawyer urges Tinubu to consider resignation over worsening insecurity
Lawyer Maduabuchi Idam has urged President Bola Tinubu to consider resignation if the worsening insecurity in Nigeria becomes overwhelming. In a statement signed Saturday, Idam described resignation as "a legitimate option in the interest of citizens' safety" and criticized the administration's approach since assuming office.
The lawyer argued that Tinubu's security strategy mirrors previous governments, relying on conventional combat methods that are inadequate for modern challenges. "Unfortunately, the President's strategy has not changed from that of his predecessors. It remains the old doctrinal security template, predicated solely on manual combat," Idam stated.
He advocated for technology-driven solutions including satellite surveillance, CCTV networks, and drones to enhance intelligence gathering. Idam also expressed concern over handling of internally displaced persons and warned citizens may resort to legal action over fundamental rights protection if the situation continues unchanged.
With security challenges affecting daily life nationwide, should the government prioritize conventional military approaches or shift resources to technological surveillance systems?
