South African fintech startup littlefish secured $9.5 million Series A funding to scale its merchant operating system across Africa. The company provides a unified platform integrating point-of-sale, CRM, payments, and APIs for small businesses, addressing inefficiencies in fragmented tools and security risks. Littlefish partners with Tier I banks like Standard Bank and Absa in South Africa, planning expansion into Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Zambia. The funding will support team growth, product development, and market penetration. Co-founder Brandon Roberts stated: 'We're building world-class financial infrastructure for the little guys too.' This approach positions littlefish as an enabling layer for financial institutions rather than direct competition.
