The Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) has dismissed a complaint against Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu. The ruling, reference BB/LPDC/1954/2026, states no prima facie case was established against Kalu. The panel, chaired by Umeh Kalu, SAN, found the complaint flawed procedurally and substantively. Key reasons include: 1) The complaint was addressed to the wrong committee (Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee instead of LPDC) under Rule 4 of LPDC Rules 2020. 2) Allegations about NYSC participation, Nigerian Law School training, and Supreme Court enrollment fall outside LPDC's jurisdiction as defined by Section 10 of the Legal Practitioners Act. 3) Alleged infractions occurred before Kalu's call to the Bar in 2011. The matter is now closed.
