Makinde pushes for transparent crude pricing to benefit Nigerians at Abuja campaign launch
Governor Seyi Makinde, presidential candidate of the Allied People’s Movement and Oyo State Governor, commissioned the Makinde/Daura Presidential Campaign Office in Abuja on September 7, 2026. Speaking at the event, he demanded complete transparency across Nigeria’s petroleum value chain so that crude oil delivers real, measurable benefits to Nigerians.
Makinde argued Nigerians should not pay international-equivalent prices for crude supplied to local refineries when the resource is produced domestically. Using an agricultural analogy, he stated: "If a community grows food, the people of that community should not have to buy that food as though it travelled halfway around the world before reaching them." He insisted benefits from Nigeria’s crude resources must be incorporated from the outset—through the price at which crude is supplied for domestic refining—rather than through opaque interventions at the petrol pump after costs and inefficiencies accumulate.
The proposal aligns with his "Reset Nigeria" agenda aimed at dismantling opaque systems and rebuilding public trust. Notable attendees included APM National Leader Senator Bala Mohammed (Bauchi Governor), NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi, and PDP figure Dr. Aliyu Babangida, signaling potential cross-party interest in petroleum sector reform. The event underscored the APM’s 2027 election focus on competence-based governance rather than ethnic or religious politics.
