Okwara, who was also accused of beating his wife, was further fined N20,000 by the Nde Umuada, a traditional umbrella body of married women and daughters of the community. According to a trending video of the incident, the alleged offender, said to be from Amaekpu in Ohafia, had reportedly developed the habit of physically assaulting his parents over minor disagreements. The Umuada described his actions as a sacrilege that could not be tolerated in the community. They added that the N20,000 fine imposed on him would be used to perform traditional cleansing rites at the village square, which they said had been desecrated by his actions.
