Mother, daughter arrested for N18m romance scam targeting Malta victim
Police arrest mother and daughter over alleged N18m romance scam published today. Operatives of the NPF-NCCC arrested 39-year-old Urowhe Diana and her 22-year-old daughter, Rokibat Oluwasheyi Imoru, for allegedly defrauding a Malta resident of more than N18 million through romance scams.
The arrests followed investigations into computer-related fraud, identity theft, and money laundering after intelligence from the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, NFIU. Police statement from DSP Uwana Imah revealed that Lagos resident Emmanuel Amanfo, who is still at large, allegedly collaborated with Rokibat to open multiple bank accounts used in fraudulent transactions.
Forensic analysis linked both mother and daughter to the cybercrime operation. Proceeds from the scam were transferred through money operators and direct deposits into Nigerian accounts, with funds later moved to an Ecobank account owned by Urowhe Diana where money was allegedly spent. Police are still searching for Emmanuel Amanfo, described as Urowhe's husband and Rokibat's stepfather.
Investigation continues and suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion. NPF-NCCC urges public to report suspicious cyber activities through official reporting channels.
