MPAC condemns foreign interference in Iran, urges dialogue
The Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC) has condemned external interference in Iran’s internal affairs, warning that foreign involvement could escalate tensions and undermine the Iranian people’s right to determine their own future. In a statement issued on Thursday, the group stood in solidarity with Iranians engaged in peaceful protests following years of economic hardship, which it largely attributed to United States sanctions on Iran. MPAC said the sanctions had contributed to widespread suffering and poverty across the country. The organization also accused Israel of carrying out covert actions that it said have further destabilized Iran, warning that both the United States and Israel were seeking to exploit the unrest for geopolitical advantage. "There is evidence that foreign agents have infiltrated protests to hijack legitimate grievances and provoke violence," MPAC said. The group criticized statements by the U.S. President encouraging protest actions in Iran, arguing that such remarks could endanger innocent lives. MPAC contrasted the U.S. stance on Iran with its handling of domestic unrest, noting that protests against police brutality and systemic racism in the United States have been met with force, including tear gas, rubber bullets and live ammunition. It also referenced protests in Israel that were met with government crackdowns and restrictive laws affecting free speech. MPAC questioned the motives of Washington and Tel Aviv, stating their actions toward Iran were not driven by concern for the Iranian people but by an attempt to destabilize a long-standing adversary. The group condemned threats of military action against Iran by U.S. officials, warning that such moves could endanger regional and global security, describing military escalation as “a recipe for disaster.” Drawing parallels with Iraq and Libya, MPAC urged Iranians to be wary of foreign intervention, while also calling on the Iranian government to engage in constructive dialogue with opposition groups. "A peaceful, internally driven process remained the only viable path to resolving Iran’s challenges," the organization said.
