MTN Nigeria added 13,433 subscribers to its fibre-to-the-home service in December 2025, solidifying its lead in Nigeria's fixed Internet market. Smaller competitors 21st Technologies and SWIFT Nigeria suffered significant losses, with 21st's subscriber base dropping 50% from 175 to 82 and SWIFT losing 44.3% of its users. The trend reflects MTN's infrastructure advantage, with extensive fibre networks enabling faster, more reliable connectivity that smaller players struggle to match. MTN's capital expenditure surged 125% to ₦1 trillion ($715 million) in 2025, funded by ₦1.1 trillion profit after-tax, supporting 5G densification and deeper fibre rollout. However, vandalism remains a challenge, with 9,218 fibre cuts reported. This market shift signals higher concentration, potential pricing power for dominant players, and mounting regulatory pressure to ensure competition and affordability as consumers rely more on high-speed broadband.
