MTN Nigeria Communications Plc reported a record profit before tax of N1.09 trillion for the first half of 2026, up 75.4% year-on-year, driven by strong data demand, improved efficiency and lower borrowing. Revenue rose 25.9% to N2.99 trillion, while profit after tax jumped 70.6% to N707.5 billion. The board approved an interim dividend of N26 per share, payable on September 7, 2026 to shareholders on the register as of August 20, 2026. Earnings per share rose to N33.76 and shareholders’ equity grew to N930.6 billion. Data revenue led growth, climbing 38.3% to N1.70 trillion and making up 56.8% of total income, while voice revenue increased 15.0% to N897.1 billion. The company added 4.9 million subscribers, reaching 92.2 million total, with 55.7 million active data users. Capital expenditure stood at N620.5 billion, free cash flow at N712.7 billion, and the share price closed at N857.10, up 67.7% year-to-date despite a flat reaction on announcement day. MTN’s CEO credited the naira’s stability and disciplined execution for the results.

Given MTN’s robust profit growth, rising dividend and strong data‑driven revenue, should you consider increasing your exposure to the stock for dividend income or capital appreciation, or does the current price already reflect the optimism?
