MTN plans to connect 20-30 million African homes to broadband over five years, shifting focus from mobile-only to household internet access. CEO Ralph Mupita stated this move targets stable broadband demand for work, education, and entertainment, positioning connectivity, fintech, and digital infrastructure as core growth platforms. MTN Nigeria added 281,000 home users in Q3 2025, investing ₦1 trillion in fibre expansion. The strategy uses FWA and FTTH technologies, prioritizing customer experience and economics. MTN aims to increase data consumption (currently 12GB/month) by expanding broadband, targeting SMEs and unlocking digital services like streaming and education. The plan aligns with MTN's broader strategy review, including potential acquisition of IHS Towers, while maintaining disciplined capital allocation (15-18% revenue for capex). AI will optimize networks, similar to mobile's impact on Africa.
