NAMDA warns 3-day medical lecturers strike from Sept 1 over unpaid allowances

The Nigerian Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) announced a three-day warning strike starting Tuesday, September 1, 2026, across all medical schools nationwide. Acting National Secretary General Prof. Aniekan Peter stated the strike follows unresolved negotiations on lecturer welfare amid severe staff shortages and worsening 'Japa syndrome' brain drain.

NAMDA cites Federal Government failure to implement CONMESS salary structure, non-payment of MCATA and EAA allowances, and unpaid excess workload despite mass medical doctor production goals. The association described this as antithetical to training quality, warning that allowable issues will escalate without urgent government action to return to negotiations.

The strike will be total and comprehensive, disrupting lectures and clinical training in all federal and state medical schools. NAMDA urges lecturers to comply fully while calling on authorities to address grievances before the warning action becomes inevitable.
