NCAA recorded 7,961 domestic flights in August 2026, with 4,765 delayed (59.8%) and 36 cancelled. Of delayed flights, 2,801 were delayed 16-60 minutes, 1,322 delayed 1-2 hours, 407 delayed 2-3 hours, and 235 delayed 3+ hours—meaning over 600 flights kept passengers waiting two hours or longer. Air Peace had the worst performance: 1,330 delays from 1,864 flights operated (71.2%), including 108 delays exceeding three hours. United Nigeria Airlines followed with 943 delays from 1,231 operations (76.6%), recording the highest cancellations at eight flights. Other airlines showed varying disruption levels, with Enugu Air at 582 delays from 878 flights and Value Jet at 435 delays from 767 flights. The figures come after NCAA warned airlines on September 10 about recurring delays, crew shortages, and operational mismatches, urging carriers to align schedules with available aircraft and crew while improving passenger communication during disruptions. Given that nearly six in ten domestic flights face delays, how will you adjust your travel plans—allow extra connection time, check airline on-time records before booking, or consider alternative transport for critical trips?
