NCC appoints interim DBI chairman to drive digital economy transformation targeting Nigeria's youth
The Nigerian Communications Commission appointed Princess Oforitsenere Emiko as Interim Chairman of the Digital Bridge Institute board, announced Monday by NCC Public Affairs Director Nnenna Ukoha. She joins Executive Commissioners Abraham Oshadami (Technical Services) and Rimini Makama (Stakeholder Management) as interim board members working alongside President/CEO David Daser and unexpired board members to drive DBI's transformation.
Established by NCC in May 2004 for telecom/IT training, DBI is being repositioned for Nigeria's evolving digital economy where technology advances rapidly and communications infrastructure is now a national sovereignty issue. With 70 percent of Nigerians under 30, the transformation aims to empower youth with advanced technical skills to close the capability gap slowing technology adoption across communications and the wider digital economy.
The repositioned Institute will focus on five areas: Education and Training, Research and Development, Innovation, Economic Impact and Growth, and Emerging Policy and Regulation. Strategy was shaped through consultations with Federal Ministries of Education, Science and Technology, Communications, TETFund, and NASENI. This initiative directly addresses Nigeria's demographic advantage and national priority of securing communications sector advancement.
