NDC dismisses social media primary results, insists only NEC can announce
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged members of the public to disregard results circulating on social media regarding its nationwide primary elections held on May 28 and 29, 2026. In a statement issued on Sunday by National Publicity Secretary Osa Director Esq., the party emphasized that only the National Executive Council (NEC) has authority to officially announce primary results.
According to the statement, NEC members have been directed to arrive in Abuja for a pre-NEC meeting on Tuesday, June 2, with the substantive meeting scheduled for Wednesday, June 3. The meeting follows a directive from NDC National Leader Senator Seriake Dickson.
The NDC assured stakeholders that the official list of candidates contesting under the party platform would be made public after completion of internal processes and submission to INEC. 'The general public and stakeholders will be availed of the results of our primaries when we send the list of candidates to fly our party's flag to the INEC,' the statement said.
Meanwhile, reactions continue as social media user Dylan (@grace_speak05) claimed Hon. Utomi Nwanne remains the leading candidate in Delta North Senatorial primary, urging respect for the electorate's mandate. The NDC maintains only NEC-released results should be regarded as authentic.
With election season heating up, should political parties adopt faster result announcement timelines to prevent misinformation, or is careful deliberation more important than speed?
