The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has uploaded the name of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s portal after filing an appeal and an application for a stay of execution against a court order that ordered the party’s deregistration. National Leader Senator Seriake Dickson said the party served the appeal and stay‑of‑execution papers on the INEC chairman and urged the electoral body to act in line with the law. He stressed that the NDC remains a duly registered party, having taken part in every electoral process and concluded its primaries under INEC’s supervision. The party has been granted access to the INEC portal to upload the names of its 2027 candidates; so far, Dickson’s and Obi’s names are on the list, while the vice‑presidential candidate’s name will be added once the required documents are ready. According to the INEC timetable, submissions for National Assembly candidates close on July 11, and those for governorship and state assembly candidates close on July 17. Dickson called on party members to stay calm, noting that reconciliation efforts are underway after the primaries and that unsuccessful aspirants will be absorbed into the party’s campaign structures and committees. He added that, with the appeal and stay‑of‑execution now before the courts, the judiciary will decide the party’s next steps in accordance with the law.
