NDLEA intercepts UK colos shipments, seizes drugs worth millions across Nigeria
NDLEA operatives intercepted two UK-bound consignments of synthetic cannabis (Colorado/Colos) at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, seizing 27 parcels weighing 32.20kg and another 12.25kg, arresting real estate agent Abideen Jide Salami and recipient Nurudeen Abiodun Kadiri. Separately, officers found Colorado hidden in music speakers at Maza Maza and Iddo motor parks, arresting tour agent Ifeanyi Obed Augustine, owner Obasi Ugochukwu, and Ifeanyi Nwokolo Henry. Nationwide raids yielded further seizures: in Delta, ampoules of pentazocine, codeine syrup, tramadol, diazepam, flunitrazepam and MDMA; in Kano, 669.425kg of pregabalin capsules and 1,700 diazepam tablets hidden in bread; in Plateau, 157,100 tramadol capsules; in Ondo, 186kg of skunk; in Kaduna, 369.6kg cannabis; in Bayelsa, 876kg cannabis; in Edo, destruction of 4,832.56kg skunk from cannabis farms. At least 20 suspects were arrested across these operations. NDLEA also conducted War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization visits to schools, colleges, traditional rulers and Emir of Keffi. Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa urged sustained efforts to shut down drug pipelines at airports, seaports, borders and cultivation areas. The scale of interceptions reveals persistent transnational drug trafficking networks endangering public health. Citizens should remain alert to unusual shipments or speaker-based concealments, report suspicious activities to NDLEA hotlines, and support community anti-drug awareness initiatives.
