NDLEA nabs drug traffickers nationwide, seizes cocaine, meth, cannabis
NDLEA arrested multiple drug traffickers across Nigeria in early July 2026, seizing illicit substances worth millions of naira. At Lagos' Murtala Muhammed International Airport on June 28, a 67-year-old Nigerian-British caregiver was stopped before boarding a Virgin Atlantic flight to London; officers found 13 kg of cocaine hidden in 31 fake plantain peels packed in her luggage, and she admitted ownership. In Anambra, NDLEA dismantled a syndicate targeting Kuala Lumpur, arresting PhD student Nwabueze Felix Onyeka in Ekwusigo LGA after intercepting 5.8 kg of cocaine hidden in nine cartons of Orijin Bitters; four Lagos-based accomplices had been detained earlier. In Taraba, Daniel Harrison Ugwuoke was stopped on July 4 along Zaki-Biam Road with 43,980 tramadol capsules concealed in two vehicle fuel tanks. Kaduna operatives seized 1.7 kg of methamphetamine from Boniface Agu and Monday Nwaeze in Gwantu LGA on July 2. Ebonyi authorities recovered 231.7 kg of skunk from Francis Ifara Eja in Ikwo on July 4, while Plateau's Qua'an Pan LGA yielded 15 kg of skunk from Alhaji Babani on July 3. In Gombe, 556 kg of cannabis sativa was found with Dahiru Mohammed and Isiya Lawan at Kuri village on July 1. Beyond enforcement, NDLEA continued its War Against Drug Abuse campaign, holding sensitization lectures at schools in Anambra, Enugu, Ogun and Kano.
