NDLEA secures 974 convictions Q1 2026 as 11 traffickers get 254-year combined sentence
NDLEA secured 974 drug convictions nationwide in Q1 2026, with monthly increases from 265 in January to 316 in February and 393 in March. Among them, 11 major traffickers received combined 254-year sentences, led by Lagos-based businessman Adegbite Solomon ('Obama') getting 130 years (concurrent) for 15 counts, plus asset forfeiture of pharmacies and bank funds.
Other significant sentences include Ridwan Animashaun (25 years, Ibadan, repeat offender), Rauf Asogba and Seun Olaniyi (17 years each, Abeokuta for cannabis), Jonathan Nuhu (15 years, Kano), and Idris Yusuf (15+8 years, Yobe). Five others got 7-year terms across various states.
NDLEA Chairman Marwa called this a 'significant milestone' showing tightened enforcement and judicial cooperation, urging public support with credible information to stay ahead of syndicates.
With convictions rising monthly and targeting high-level operators including repeat offenders, will you report suspicious drug activity to NDLEA to support these enforcement efforts, or do you believe current penalties adequately deter trafficking?
