Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has launched the Meta-Supported Initiative for Data Protection (M-SIDP), a two-year programme funded by Meta following a 2025 court-approved settlement over Meta's data processing practices in Nigeria. The initiative focuses on governance, research, and development to strengthen data protection mechanisms aligned with Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and NDPC Strategic Roadmap 2023-2027. NDPC emphasized this doesn't limit its independent regulatory powers. This comes amid rising cyber threats as institutions like Remita, Sterling Bank, CAC, and EFCC have faced data breaches recently. NDPC is currently investigating these breaches while proposing new cybersecurity coordination measures. For businesses and organizations handling Nigerian data, this signals increased regulatory focus on data protection compliance. How will your organization adapt to these evolving data protection requirements and cybersecurity challenges?
