These tactics matter because they exploit personal data of deceased Nigerians and take advantage of well‑meaning donors, allowing terrorist networks to move money while staying under radar. The method increases risks of identity theft, fraud, and could lead to tighter controls on mobile money services that affect everyday users. Hundreds of sympathizers have been urged to contribute, with the pooled funds later fragmented into smaller payments sent via International Money Transfer Operators and remittance apps to a network of money mules operating inside Nigeria.
