Nigeria AI Summit Calls for Local AI Solutions Tailored to Nigerian Context
Nigeria’s AI summit convened experts in Lagos to discuss building artificial intelligence solutions that reflect local realities. Speakers including Dotun Adeoye of AI Nigeria, Ibiyemi Lawani, Hannatu Adegboyega and convener Motunrayo Opawole stressed that AI tools must be tailored to Nigerian languages, cultural nuances and regional data, rather than relying solely on imported models. They highlighted infrastructure gaps—especially unreliable electricity and limited internet access—as major barriers to inclusive AI adoption, urging innovators to engage end‑users from the start and fall in love with the problem, not the solution. The forum outlined four pillars for accelerating AI adoption: data, talent, governance and computing infrastructure, and encouraged entrepreneurs to solve practical business problems without being intimidated by technical complexity.
