Nigeria Banks See $16.78B Capital Inflows Jan-Sep 2025, 131% YoY Surge
Nigeria's banking sector attracted $16.78 billion in capital inflows between January and September 2025, marking a 131.81% year-on-year increase from $7.236 billion in 2024. This surge reflects renewed investor confidence, with foreign portfolio investments (FPIs) accounting for 97% of total inflows. The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) report shows Q3 2025 alone recorded $6.01 billion, a 380% jump from Q3 2024. Standard Chartered Bank led with $2.115 billion (35.17%), followed by Stanbic IBTC ($1.789B, 29.75%) and Citibank ($561.40M, 9.33%). UK investors dominated with $2.935B (48.80%), while US and South African investors contributed $950.47M (15.80%) and $773.95M (12.87%) respectively. Only $590M went to equity investments, with $13.6B flowing into bonds and money markets. CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso noted total 2025 inflows reached $20.98B, a 70% increase from 2024.
