Nigeria Customs debunks fake recruitment advert, warns public of scam

Nigeria Customs Service has dismissed a circulating social media advert claiming to recruit new officers, warning the public to ignore the fake notice and warning fraudsters to stop the scam. In a statement issued on Thursday, the Service said recruitment scams have become a recurring problem in Nigeria, with criminals exploiting interest in government jobs by posting fake advertisements and soliciting money from unsuspecting applicants. It urged Nigerians to rely only on information released through its official communication channels for authentic updates on activities, including recruitment. The statement added, "Members of the public are advised to disregard the publication and rely only on information disseminated through the official communication channels of the Nigeria Customs Service." The Customs also called on security agencies and government institutions to continue warning citizens about unofficial recruitment notices and to verify any job offers before responding or transferring money. The fake advert, which appeared on various social media posts that promised employment opportunities, has been identified as fraudulent. Members of the public who encounter similar adverts should report them to the Customs or relevant anti‑fraud agencies and avoid making any payments.
