Nigeria loses 30-50% of perishable crops annually due to underdeveloped cold chain infrastructure, costing ₦3.5-5 trillion yearly. This post-harvest loss contributes to food inflation and reduces farmer income despite Nigeria being Africa's largest tomato producer. Cold chain solutions could save 40% of tomato production and unlock export opportunities. Nigeria needs ~25,000 refrigerated trucks but has only ~1,000 currently. Investment in cold storage infrastructure is critical to feed 400 million people by 2050 and reduce food waste.
