Nigeria's telecom regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has proposed a new rule requiring telecom operators to provide subscribers with a 14-day notice before deactivating inactive SIM cards. Currently, operators can deactivate lines after six months of inactivity, with a further six-month grace period before permanent loss. The change aims to combat fraud through the Telecoms Identity Risk Management System (TIRMS), which tracks recycled and churned numbers linked to financial fraud. Operators must now warn users via alternative lines or email. This affects users who may lose access if inactive, though the six-month deactivation timeline remains unchanged. Will you ensure your contact details are updated to avoid unexpected disconnection?
