Nigeria needs regional alliance to defeat insecurity, says Olawepo-Hashim
Accord Party presidential candidate Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim says Nigeria cannot defeat insecurity without active cooperation from neighboring countries. Speaking on Channels Television on Tuesday, he argued that an isolated approach will fail.
He proposed hosting an international security conference to build an integrated strategy involving Chad, Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso. Olawepo-Hashim noted that the crisis is deeply connected to the Libyan conflict and extremist groups operating across the Sahel, requiring input even from global players like the Russians and the French.
This comes amid national outrage over the recent abduction of teachers and students in Oyo State. The presidential hopeful blames the current leadership for lacking a true understanding of national security concepts, allowing the crisis to fester.
With kidnapping and insurgency spreading across the country, do you think Nigeria's current isolated approach is working, or is a regional coalition the only realistic solution?
