Nigerian Army redeploys senior officers to boost operations nationwide
Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu approved the strategic redeployment of senior officers to key command, operational and staff positions across the Nigerian Army, according to a statement issued Wednesday by Acting Director of Army Public Relations Colonel Appolonia Anele. The exercise prioritised critical operational theatres and strategic appointments to ensure experienced officers are placed where they can deliver optimal results.
Under the new postings, Major General IA Ajose moves from Army Headquarters Department of Army Operations to serve as Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI. Major General AE Abubakar is redeployed to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre as Dean of the Faculty of Operational Research, while Major General AM Alechenu transfers from Defence Headquarters Garrison to the same centre. Major General RT Utsaha shifts from Army Headquarters Department of Army Standards and Evaluation to Defence Headquarters Garrison as Commander. Major General AM Umar becomes Commandant of the Army War College Nigeria after moving from the Department of Civil-Military Affairs, with Major General UM Alkali taking over his former post. Major General GS Muhammed moves from the Office of the National Security Adviser to lead the Nigerian Army Finance Corporation as Director General, and Major General JE Osifo moves from that corporation to chair the Military Pension Board. Major General IE Ekpenyong is appointed Director of Engineering Services at the Defence Headquarters Department of Defence Logistics.
At the operational level, Brigadier General AA Bello transfers from 6 Division Garrison and Sector 3 of the Joint Task Force South-South, Operation DELTA SAFE, to the Defence Headquarters Department of Defence Operations. Brigadier General MS Adamu takes command of the newly established 8 Brigade after moving from the Nigerian Army Women Command, while Brigadier General MS Sule becomes Commander of the 27 Task Force Brigade from the Special Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE. Brigadier General I Sule moves from the Directorate of Recruitment Management to command 6 Division Garrison, Brigadier General E Azenda becomes Commander of 2 Division Garrison after leaving the Land Forces Simulation Centre, and Brigadier General AS Bugaje switches from 2 Division Garrison to become Director of Administration at the Land Forces Simulation Centre.
Shaibu charged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence reposed in them through exemplary leadership, operational innovation, professionalism and commitment to duty. He urged them to remain focused on the Army’s constitutional mandate of defending Nigeria’s sovereignty, protecting territorial integrity and supporting civil authorities in maintaining peace and security. The Army said it remains committed to sustaining a dynamic leadership and force‑employment framework aimed at improving operational outcomes, strengthening joint and inter‑agency coordination and enhancing capacity to respond to emerging security threats.
