Nigerian Army reshuffles leadership, appoints new GOCs and commanders

Nigerian Army announced a major leadership reshuffle on Saturday, June 27, 2026, appointing new General Officers Commanding and key commanders across operational, training and staff positions. Major General WM Dangana takes over as GOC 3 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, replacing Maj Gen EF Oyinlola. Maj Gen EI Okoro becomes GOC 6 Division and Land Component Commander of JTF South‑South Operation DELTA SAFE, succeeding Maj Gen EE Emeka. Maj Gen JR Lar is appointed Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, while Brig Gen OM Oyekola assumes office as Acting Military Secretary (Army). Brig Gen IB Buhari will command Headquarters 63 Brigade and Brig Gen K Rabiu takes over Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade. Maj Gen SA Emmanuel heads the newly created Nigerian Army Space Command; Maj Gen O Adegbe becomes Director of Intelligence and Security at Defence Headquarters. In training institutions, Maj Gen KE Chigbu is Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College, Maj Gen SD Makolo Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armour School, Maj Gen SO Adejimi Commandant of the School of Supply and Transport, and Maj Gen FS Etim Chief of Training at TRADOC. Brig Gen U Ahmad leads Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria. Maj Gen KO Ukandu is named MD/CEO of Post Housing Development Limited and Maj Gen AI Allison MD/CEO of Defence Properties Limited. COAS Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu urged the appointees to demonstrate professionalism, innovation and exemplary leadership. The reshuffle aims to boost operational effectiveness and address evolving security challenges nationwide.
