Nigerian corporates raise N446.1B via commercial paper in Q3 2026 for working capital
Nigerian corporates tapped the money market for N446.1 billion in commercial paper during Q3 2026, with 23 companies issuing 43 series under N1.98 trillion programs, per Nairametrics Research analysis of offer documents and FMDQ records from July-September.
The ten largest offerings targeted N350 billion (78.5% of total), all for working capital financing. Pivot Integrated Energy Services Limited led at N100 billion, followed by Payaza Africa Limited and Sunny Owo Ventures Nigeria Limited at N50 billion each. Implied yields ranged from 19.00% (Johnvents Industries) to 24.75% (Sunny Owo Ventures Series 2), with two Shariah-compliant Murabahah papers from Homeport and Zeenab Foods SPVs offering profit rates of 21.50%-24.00%.
This confirms commercial paper as the preferred short-term liquidity instrument for Nigerian businesses managing operational cash flow. The yield spread reflects varying risk perceptions across sectors and tenors, while Islamic finance options cater to growing demand for Shariah-compliant instruments. Third-party ratings from DataPro, Agusto, GCR, and Intelligence Africa provide essential transparency for investor decision-making.
Given current commercial paper yields of 19-24.75%, should your business adjust working capital financing strategies, explore Islamic finance alternatives, or maintain existing approaches? For investors, does this sustained corporate issuance signal opportunities in specific sectors' short-term debt worth deeper analysis?
