Nigerian diaspora urged to vote in US politics
Dr. Chris Ademiluyi of United Nigerian Americans Council (UNAC) in Maryland is urging Nigerian-Americans to actively participate in US politics. UNAC, established in 2019, focuses on motivating diaspora Nigerians to register as voters, participate in elections, and contest for political positions in the US.
The organization prioritizes empowerment, political awareness, and increasing Nigerian representation within the American political system. UNAC is working to build a base of politically conscious voters capable of influencing US elections and policy decisions.
While many members prefer not to make direct financial contributions to politicians, UNAC emphasizes that voting remains a powerful tool for supporting candidates and shaping governance. The council specifically acknowledges this unique perspective within the Nigerian-American community.
For Nigerian-Americans in Maryland seeking political influence, UNAC offers a pathway to engage with the US political system through voter registration, electoral participation, and potentially running for office.
