Nigerian legal scholar appointed dean of Canadian law school starting October 2026
Dr. Ibironke Odumosu-Ayanu has been appointed dean of the University of Saskatchewan College of Law in Canada, effective October 1, 2026, for a five-year term. She currently serves as professor and associate dean of research and graduate studies at the same institution.
A Lagos native who earned her LL.B from University of Lagos before pursuing graduate studies in Canada, Odumosu-Ayanu's appointment highlights the global impact of Nigerian academic excellence. Her research focuses on business and human rights, international investment law, and natural resource governance—examining how legal decisions affect local communities.
She moved to Canada after her LLM at University of Calgary, initially planning to return to Nigeria but stayed for PhD at UBC and joined USask Law in 2008. Her teaching earned the Provost’s College Award for Outstanding Teaching in 2012 and USask InterD Advisor Award in 2026. As dean, she aims to strengthen Indigenous legal scholarship and community engagement while building on the college's reputation.
