Nigerian man arrested in Ukraine after being deceived into Russian army
Nigerian national Balogun Ridwan was arrested by Ukrainian forces after allegedly being tricked into joining the Russian army. According to UnitedMedia24, Ridwan traveled to Russia under false pretenses of an engineering job but was forced to sign a Russian-language contract upon arrival. He claims he didn't understand the contract and was later deployed to Ukraine's frontlines despite chaotic training. During training, another recruit suffered a heart attack and was sent to combat anyway. Ridwan surrendered to Ukrainian troops in January and is pleading for Nigerian government intervention, stating he was 'fooled' into becoming a soldier. His case adds to reports of Nigerians being recruited for Russia's war through false promises of employment or education.
