Nigerian stock market gains N515bn with 56.41% YTD return
Nigerian stock market opened the week strongly on Monday, with investors recording N515 billion in gains. Market capitalisation rose by N515 billion to N156.108 trillion (0.33% increase), while the All-Share Index advanced by 802.94 points to 243,396.25. This improved the market's year-to-date return to 56.41%, making it one of the best-performing markets globally this year.
Trading showed positive breadth with 32 stocks gaining against 30 losers. International Energy Insurance led gainers with a 9.92% increase to N7.98, while Fidson Healthcare was the worst performer, shedding 10% to N122.85. Overall trading volume rose to 717.16 million shares worth N56.66 billion in 73,321 deals, up from Friday's 608.49 million shares.
FCMB dominated trading volume with 157.80 million shares (21.15%), while Dangote Cement led by value with N29.77 billion in transactions (51.28%). With the market delivering strong 56.41% returns this year, should investors continue accumulating Nigerian stocks, take partial profits, or rebalance portfolios given the significant YTD gains?
