Nigerian stocks hit record N162.2tn market cap, close week bullish
The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) All-Share Index climbed to 249,804.56 points on Friday, up 1.42% from Thursday’s 246,315.38 points. Market capitalisation surged to N162.16 trillion, an increase of N2.27 trillion from N159.89 trillion the previous day. Trading activity saw 525,991,720 shares change hands in 44,239 deals, volume down 52% from the prior week’s 1.1 billion shares.
The rally was broad‑based, with 36 stocks advancing against 22 decliners, giving a bullish breadth ratio of 1.64x. Gains were led by CILEASING and FTG Insurance, each up 10% to N5.50 and N1.65, while MTN Nigeria rose 9.2% to N890. Banking stocks such as Zenith Bank and First HoldCo posted strong turnover, though their prices were flat or slightly down. On the losing side, Cadbury Nigeria fell 9.3% to N53, Transcorp Power dropped 9.96% to N178, and Omatek Ventures slipped 8.4% to N1.20.
