Nigerian worker hurt in Qatar gas blast discharged, NiDCOM confirms recovery
Nigerian worker Jubril Akorede Abdulrahman was discharged from hospital after being injured in the June 21 explosion at Qatar Energy's Barzan Gas Supply Facility in Ras Laffan. NiDCOM confirmed on Saturday that Abdulrahman is recuperating at employer-provided accommodation. The blast injured 66 workers from Qatar, Nigeria, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, India and Nepal, none with life-threatening injuries.
NiDCOM praised Ambassador Mahmood Yakubu for his rapid engagement with Qatari authorities, which kept the Nigerian government informed throughout Abdulrahman's treatment. Chairman Abike Dabiri-Erewa welcomed the news, urged Qatar Energy to continue medical and welfare support for all affected workers, and said the commission will keep monitoring the condition of other Nigerians involved.
The incident was described by Qatar Energy as an industrial accident unrelated to sabotage or terrorism, following a maintenance shutdown that began in December 2025.
