Nigeria’s Flamingos secured a 4-2 victory over Ghana in the WAFU B U-17 Girls’ Cup Jollof Derby on Friday, extending their winning start to the tournament. Oluwakemi Adegbuyi opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, captain Harmony Chidi doubled the lead in first-half stoppage time, and Mary Dunstan restored a two-goal cushion eight minutes after Ghana’s Seidatu Wahab pulled one back in the 62nd minute. Kaosarat Akanji added a fourth in the 87th minute before Gloria Ameaa scored Ghana’s consolation in the 90th minute, with Nigeria playing the final half‑hour a woman down after Elizabeth Adesuyi’s red card in the 59th minute.
The win pushes Nigeria’s tally to nine goals in two matches, following a 5‑0 demolition of Niger Republic three days earlier, and keeps the Flamingos atop the group standings in the league‑format WAFU B tournament hosted by Côte d’Ivoire. Head coach Akeem Busari said the competition serves as preparation for the FIFA U‑17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, allowing players to identify strengths and weaknesses before the global stage.
With Burkina Faso, Togo, Niger and hosts Côte d’Ivoire also competing, Nigeria’s next fixtures will determine whether they maintain momentum toward regional honours and World Cup readiness.
