Nigeria's electricity generation has fallen to 4,300 megawatts (MW) due to a 57.5% gas supply shortfall to thermal power plants, according to the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO). Thermal plants, which generate most of the country's electricity, received only 42.5% of required gas supplies as of February 23, 2026. This operational constraint has forced load shedding and reduced allocations to electricity distribution companies like YEDC. The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) warned that grid stability measures may continue until gas availability improves. Customers are urged to exercise patience during the ongoing supply constraints.
