Minister Joseph Tegbe spoke at Middle East Energy 2026 Leadership Summit in Dubai, presenting Nigeria's power sector reforms as a model for energy security amid geopolitical tensions. He emphasized that modern energy security depends on resilient systems—mineral supply chains, grids, financing, institutions—not just oil/gas reserves. He highlighted Nigeria's 200+ tcf gas reserves, LNG exports, and the Electricity Act 2023 that ended federal monopoly, creating 37 emerging electricity markets and attracting $2 billion in investment. Tegbe said reforms focus on regulatory certainty, contract sanctity, and bankable offtake to attract long-term capital. He urged Africa to move beyond raw resource extraction to local processing, manufacturing, skills development, and long-term financing, noting 600 million Africans lack electricity. Domestic updates: NERC inaugurated a coordination forum, DisCos face refunding N20.33 billion to MAP scheme customers within 12 months, and the FG plans to share electricity subsidy costs with state/local governments from 2026. With these reforms reshaping Nigeria's electricity market, will you see more reliable power, consider investing in emerging state markets, or advocate for faster subsidy sharing to ease your electricity bills?
