Nigeria's total debt of N152 trillion is primarily made up of past liabilities inherited by the current administration, with only N20 trillion borrowed since 2023, Finance Minister Wale Edun told the Senate. Changes in exchange rates increased the naira value of foreign loans, contributing to the debt size. The 2026 budget focuses on growth-enhancing projects to stimulate the economy and improve revenue generation. However, Senate members expressed concern that economic reforms haven't yet benefited citizens, urging better budget implementation.
